Quick Reminder That We Are Still Early to AI

The Long-Form Video Advantage

YouTube is now cited in 16% of all AI-generated answers, more than any other social platform. Reddit, which held the top position as recently as mid-2025, has dropped to 10%.

The reason is structural. When you publish a long-form video with a clean transcript, organized chapters, and a detailed description, you give AI systems exactly what they need to extract a coherent, attributable claim. Shorts account for 5.7% of YouTube's AI citations. Long-form video accounts for 94%.

That number is worth sitting with. The format most founders treat as optional, because long-form is harder to make than a short clip, turns out to be what AI systems rely on most when answering questions about your industry.

Why Long-Form Gets Cited And Short-Form Doesn’t

AI systems don't watch video. They read the text around it.

A 90-second Short produces a short caption file with minimal text and nothing for an AI model to extract a complete claim from. A 30-minute video with chapters, a detailed description, and a clean transcript produces thousands of words of structured, attributable content.

Three things determine whether your video becomes a citation asset:

Transcripts. YouTube generates them automatically, but auto-transcripts have errors and lack punctuation. Ten minutes of editing after upload is the difference between a citable source and background noise.

Chapters. Timestamps with descriptive titles give AI systems a map of your content. Each chapter becomes a discrete, searchable claim. A video with eight well-labeled chapters is structurally closer to an eight-section article than a single block of audio.

Descriptions. Most YouTube descriptions are afterthoughts. A detailed description summarizing your key arguments and the expertise behind them is the first thing AI systems read when they encounter your video. Write it like an abstract, not a caption.

The founders who built consistent long-form video libraries before AI search became the primary discovery mechanism are already ahead. The ones starting now are still early.

"The Document Post Experiment"

LinkedIn document posts are averaging 6.6% engagement, which is the highest of any format on the platform. Average LinkedIn post engagement sits well below 1%.

Despite this, most founders aren't using them.

Find a framework, checklist, or step-by-step process you've explained in a regular post before. Rebuild it as a document post with a cover slide that makes the value clear in one line, and three to five interior slides that walk through the idea with enough detail that someone could act on it immediately.

Track engagement for the first 72 hours and compare directly against your last three standard text posts.

The hypothesis: the same idea, restructured as a document post, will outperform its text equivalent. The format signals depth and gives the audience something worth saving.

One post, one format shift, and a direct answer to whether document posts belong in your regular rotation.

Why Human Presence Just Became the Most Valuable Thing You Have

TikTok has $23.4 billion in projected US ecommerce sales this year. This week, the platform made human presence a hard policy requirement on every promotional livestream.

AI voices are banned. Pre-recorded audio is banned. Real-time human interaction is the only thing TikTok will allow at the point of sale.

The reason is in the data. When consumers detect AI-generated content in brand marketing, they are four times more likely to trust the brand less. TikTok decided that risk was too significant to leave to creator discretion.

Every piece of content you've published with your real voice and your real experience has been building something AI cannot produce and platforms are now actively protecting: the signal that a real person is behind the work. That signal is not a soft brand value. On a $23 billion commerce platform, it is now a compliance requirement.

The pattern is the same everywhere. YouTube gets cited in AI answers because human experts created the content. LinkedIn personal profiles outperform company pages by 2.75x because readers respond to individual voices. Substack's sponsorship program preserves editorial independence because the audience trust that makes a newsletter worth sponsoring was built by a person, not a brand machine.

The platforms are not building around human presence because it's a nice story. They're building around it because the data keeps showing the same thing: when people can tell a real person is behind the work, they trust it more, engage with it more, and buy from it more.

TikTok just put a policy number on what it's worth.

Substack Launches Native Sponsorships With Uber, T-Mobile, and Balenciaga

Substack launched its native sponsorships program this month with an inaugural cohort including Uber, T-Mobile, Balenciaga, Yahoo Scout, Whatnot, Granola, and Polymarket, collectively investing millions of dollars in creators on the platform.

Alongside the launch, Substack introduced Creator Kits, letting publishers build a media kit and signal openness to brand partnerships directly inside the platform.

The structure: creators choose who they work with, set the creative direction, and keep full editorial independence. Substack hired former Roku and PayPal executive Dan Robbins as its first Head of Brand Sponsorships to handle matchmaking and logistics.

For newsletter writers building consistent, topic-focused audiences, the path from publishing to brand partnership just got a dedicated infrastructure without the editorial compromise that comes with most platform monetization programs.
