There is a Shift Happening...

There is a shift happening right now in entrepreneurship that has been brewing for a long time.
The shift from traditional marketing to founder-led marketing.
Here are some of my thoughts on all of it...
1. College is not preparing the next generation of entrepreneurs to be prepared to compete in today's market.
Traditional marketing being taught in higher education will not be enough to compete against founders who are established.
This forces new entrepreneurs to play rich games that they are set to lose (advertising being one of them).
The market is now sophisticated in a way that leans more towards building your own distribution instead of playing bidding wars through paid advertising.
2. Those who build their own distribution will win in the long term.
Business is a war of attrition on many fronts.
Can you spend more to acquire a customer than your competition?
But, what if there was a way to build your own distribution (while increasing your likelihood of success in other areas of business)?
This is where building your own ecosystem comes into play.
I will use myself as an example:
3 years ago I got into entrepreneurship with -$250k in net worth.
By all indications, I should not have been able to compete in the market.
So instead of raising capital, I focused on the one thing I could control…
Content and audience building.
I used X (Twitter at the time) as my personal marketing platform.
I wrote:
Stories to connect with people
Insights into the skill I was building
Proof that I could deliver on what I was selling
This gave me the ability to reach out to potential clients with social proof from my content + audience.
I owned my distribution instead of praying to the ad gods for favor.

3. Final thought: If you ignore your personal brand you will regret it.
You can keep trying to figure out the next "advantage.”

Cold Emails
SMS marketing
Meta, YT, Tik Tok ads
A new trick being pushed on you.
OR
You could simply start posting content daily and never (and I mean never) stop.
Bottom line:
“Personal brands are the future of marketing.”
