What Lights Your Fire?

This picture has saved my life over a dozen times.

This isn't my biological father.

This is my dad.

The man who took a chance on a three-month-old kid who needed a home.

This picture has reminded me of what love, family, and hope mean when I've struggled with:

• Depression

• Anxiety

• Fear

It was on my dashboard in high school.

It was in my football locker in college.

It was on my desk at my 9-5.

It has been in my eyesight every day for over two decades.

Reminding me that no matter how far I go or what I accomplish.

It all started with someone believing in me.

You see my dad didn't have to give me a home.

He chose to do it.

So many people ask me where I get my drive from.

How do I keep going on the hard days?

The truth is that's how my dad raised me.

He would always say these three things:

1. Nobody owes you a damn thing.

2. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

3. Respect will get you further than anything else.

These 3 lessons have carried me to where I am today.

It is the reason I have a beautiful family.

It is the reason I was able to walk away from my 9-5.

It is the reason I have been able to create the life I have.
