I spent over 1,000 hours learning to build a personal brand effectively— because college completely failed to teach me.
Here's everything I learned distilled into 11 tweets (that you can start applying today):
1. Your story is the greatest asset to your brand
People want to know who you are just as much as what you can do for them.
Focus on:
Where you came from
What shaped who you are
How your life can impact others
2. Don't get caught in the comparison game with people who are ahead of you
It’s easy for me to compare myself to where Sahil Bloom is now.
The problem is… I need to be comparing myself to where he was in relation to where I am now.
Year 13 Sahil is a lot different than year 3 Sahil.
So many accounts can go viral.
I've seen 1000s of people do it, but most of the people that do don't make it past 6 months.
Because if you don't have a plan, going viral is useless.
4. Optimize for traffic
Your profile should include:
Banner that represents you
Strong profile picture
Link to site
Traffic will come, make sure they have something to do when they get there.
5. Network like your life depends on it
You are going to want allies, this war won't win itself.
Make sure you are building real connections where you give value every single day.
People don't want someone who is just trying to take from them.

7. Your content should add value
Platitudes have a special place in my heart.
The fact is it doesn't matter if you don't mix in value and show how you can help your audience.
Don't be another account that grows and then doesn't have a true direction.
8. It's okay to not have a skill (at first)
When I started my account, I was still working my 9-5.
I had to teach myself how to write, how to build an offer, and how to grow a business.
It was a lot of work, but I am glad I took the time to learn.
Start now, but don't wait to acquire skills.
9. Find mentors
Year 1 of being a creator I put almost all the money I could find into mentors:
I apprenticed as a ghostwriter
I bought into group coaching
I found people ahead of me that could help me get to my goals faster
This is the way.
10. Deal with your inner demons
Listen, if you have any weaknesses they will surface when building a personal brand.
It could be fear of being judged.
It could be your mindset around money.
Deal with those early, and keep going.
11. Just don't quit
This is a LONGGGG game.
It may not happen overnight (99% won't).
If you commit to showing up every day and extending your time horizon this will be the best investment.
It will open doors you never thought were possible.
Building a brand is about more than copywriting, marketing, and posting content online consistently…
It’s about adopting the mindset, skills, and beliefs that it takes to build a brand and business online.
