🚀 6 Ways to Grow Your Newsletter
Branding Daily
As many of you already know, I’ve been putting a much bigger emphasis on my newsletter this year.
In November of 2023, I barely had an email list. I had about 1,800 subscribers from a few giveaways I did on Twitter when ChatGPT was still a hot-button topic.
Since then, I’ve been able to grow my newsletter to over 11,000 subscribers.
So today, I want to share some of the top strategies that are working to grow a newsletter.
Let’s get into it:
1. Paid Ads
Jumping right into it here… paid ads are one of the top ways to grow a newsletter.
Meta Ads (Facebook & Instagram), TikTok ads, and X/Twitter ads are the way to go for now. I'm starting to experiment with LinkedIn ads, but those have historically been expensive and ineffective for creators to use.
Video ads are working well with a text overlay.
Something similar to below:
2. Lead Magnets
Lead magnets are a must-have for anyone looking to take their newsletter growth seriously.
Instead of saying “Subscribe to my newsletter” or “If you love my content, you’ll love my newsletter,” offer something of value to the readers instead.
Create a tool, resource, or guide that fits with your target audience and offer it for free.
Say “Thanks for reading, if you’re looking to become a 6-figure creator, grab my free 6-figure business checklist” or something along those lines.
Offering free value encourages many more signups than just asking them to subscribe.
Are you struggling to consistently grow your email list?
Or don’t have the time to keep up with writing your weekly newsletter?

If you aren’t familiar with auto-plugs, it’s essentially a post that gets automatically posted underneath your original tweet after a certain amount of likes (or other metric).
So, the original tweet goes out, and then a promotional tweet goes underneath either promoting the newsletter directly or promoting your lead magnet.
You should absolutely be leveraging platforms like Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook to maximize the visibility of your newsletter. Always post about it and encourage people to sign up.
4. In-Platform Referral Program
There should be a way to set up a referral program directly in the newsletter platform you use. In Beehiiv, they make it super simple.
Use this to incentivize your existing subscribers to refer their friends, colleagues, or followers to your newsletter.
The old-school milestone rewards of “share this with 5 people and get my free hat” no longer work very well.
Instead, create another lead magnet or free course and offer that.
At the end of your newsletter, say “Share this newsletter with 1 friend and get my free email marketing course.”
This is how you get referral programs to actually work.
Most people make the mistake of only promoting their newsletter after it goes live.
Instead, you should be promoting before AND after. Create some excitement for the launch of the newsletter and post about it on social media.
“Most creators struggle with staying productive for long periods of time. In my newsletter tomorrow, I’m sharing exactly how to effortlessly increase your productivity. Subscribe below.”
Something as simple as that.
6. Optimized Bios:
Do NOT overlook the simplest way to grow your newsletter.
When someone visits your profile, make it a clear call to action for someone to subscribe to your newsletter.
