7 Random Thoughts About Business
After Scaling my agency to $1M+ in ARR
Before I jump into today’s message… I have to share something.
If there’s one book I believe every founder should read about business, this is it. For every person I’ve mentored over the last couple of years, this is often the very first book I have them read. It’s literally changed my life and helped me build the business I have today.
Okay, let’s get into it:
7 random thoughts on business I’ve learned from scaling Legacy Builder to $1M+ ARR (in 2.5 years):
1. Problems don’t disappear, they just pay you more to solve.
The misconception I used to have was that problems go away after you solve them… most of them time that’s not the case.
You just either a) get better at solving them or b) you get paid more to solve them so they don’t feel as bad.
2. Founder-led sales is the best sales method (too many people try to outsource sales too early and fail)
You are the #1 advocate for your business as a founder. Nobody will have the drive and motivation to win like you do. So don’t outsource until you’re a few million in revenue. Afte reaching over $1M in ARR as a company, I truly can’t see a better alternative.
3. Content = Network, Network = $$$
Content is crucial for any business today. Go where the people are. Period.
Content has opened doors to multiple millionaires and even a few billionaires along the way. Build your network and opportunities will follow.
4. Hiring the wrong people and trying to “make it work” will kill your business.
Who you hire can make or break a business. Don’t just get someone in the door to fill a position. Be diligent and pick the absolute best person you can find for the role.
5. Chasing “shiny objects” is the #1 reason people won’t scale.
Get clear on what your business does and does well. And unless there’s overwhelming evidence to change direction… stick to what you do best.
6. You should make it as easy as possible for the prospect to: 1. understand your service 2. Pay you 3. See value as fast as possible
It should be super easy to work with you and your business. And the underrated part? Getting quick wins for your clients. For our agency, our goal is to get a piece of content and their follow count to pop off within the first 7 to 10 days of working with us.
This sets the tone for the entire relationship going forward.
7. Since day one we have adopted the mindset of unreasonable hospitality, and it does in fact scale
Every founder needs to read this book (I also mentioned it above because of how much I believe this book has helped guide me to where I am today.
Forget all of the tactical business books you’ve read. This one will go a long way:
Top Pieces of Content This Week:
Matt Ragland is huge in the creator community space. I thought this post was interesting where he shares how you can turn your handwriting into an actual font that you can use. Luckily for me, my handwriting is awful.
Tyler Denk goes scorched earth against his competition. Worth checking out.
Anybody looking to hire a private chef? Michael Girdley shares a breakdown of what it costs him to have a private chef.
Thanks for reading!
