🚀 3 Steps to Start Your Newsletter

Branding Daily

Every creator and brand needs a newsletter.

With the potential ban of TikTok coming up and the ongoing algorithm shifts of other platforms like X, LinkedIn, and Instagram, the value of an owned audience has become evident.

If you haven't started building your email list, I’ve got you.

Today, I’m going to get into exactly what you need to do and how to get started.

(Even if you already have a newsletter, you won’t want to miss this)

Let’s dive in:

1. Pre-Newsletter Launch

Before you actually launch your newsletter there are a few things you should have nailed down.

The first… your target audience.

Who do you want to write to? I’ve found it helpful to have one singular avatar.

Know everything about them and when you sit down to write, think of how you can help them.

Next… a growth plan.

How are you going to grow and get new subscribers to your newsletter?

Write out a simple action plan for growing.

This could include:

  • Plugging your sign-up form on your social media accounts

  • Creating a list of all of your contacts and sending them an email or message to subscribe

  • Running ads on X, Meta, or TikTok

Last… content ideas.

Think of 3 main content pillars.

Mine are:

  • Family & Legacy

  • Personal Branding

  • Online business & entrepreneurship

When creating new content, always filter through your pillars.

Also, this may go without mentioning, but choose a platform to host your newsletter. I use Beehiiv because it’s the best platform for me and my newsletter needs.

I’ve used others in the past and finally found the right match when I switched to Beehiiv.

Do you struggle with:

  • Writing newsletters that actually drive leads

  • Staying consistent with sending out newsletters

  • Growing your subscriber list

2. Newsletter Design

To get new subscribers, you need to create a professional-looking landing page.

Luckily, Beehiiv makes this easy and you can create a nice landing page directly in their platform.

(I promise this isn’t an ad for Beehiiv lol)

The actual look and feel of the newsletter should be high on the priority list. People like to finish things and they like things that are visually appealing.

Make sure the email flows well and isn’t broken up too much by lines, images, or ads.

And choose quality fonts, colors, and logos for your newsletter.

You want your newsletter to be its own brand and identity, not just an extension of you.

3. Defining Your Goals & CTAs

The final fundamental of your newsletter is defining your long-term goals.

Is it to become a lead-generation source for your brand or business?

Is it to cater to a wide audience and get sponsorship opportunities?

Know this going into it.

CTAs…

Always drive traffic somewhere… even if it’s just following you on social media.

At the end of your emails, add a PS section with links to your offers or other places.

See mine for example.
